In pleasant news ... I wrote a Compleat Anachronist for the on cookery, and the print run has already sold out.

That's pretty cool.

For any trans people who need to hear this:

Your body is beautiful. You're worthy of being desired, if that's something you want.

Whether you choose to transition (and in whatever direction you want), and wherever you are in that process -- you're seen, you are believed, and I'm proud to be your sibling.

When you look in the mirror, you deserve to hear, "Hey, Beautiful." If you don't hear it in your voice, hear it in mine.

Your strength is incredible. You come from a long tradition of transgender people, stretching back to the earliest days of humanity.

Let the haters shout into the void. You don't need to. The Void already loves you. ✨

(cis people please boost)

I didn’t manage to import my followers list before the lights went out at rad town, so it would be really helpful if people could boost this to know I am over here now. 💜💖🖤☺️

I delivered a paper at the Leeds IMC on Monday (Medieval Food Porn, for those what care ...) (IMC = International Congress)

I was, I confess, a bit nervous. It's been a while since I gave a presentation at an academic conference. It was ... alright. It rekindled a bit of love for the medieval.

As someone pointed out, I essentially celebrated the 4th of July, by securing the ability to stay in a different country.

So ... Leave to Remain approved. I can stay in the UK.

Which is good.

Things I didn't expect to do on my morning cycle:

Spend half an hour trying to explain systematic and structural racism to the guy who came outside while I was talking to his cat.

Yes, I stop and talk to all the cats I see when I am out cycling. It's only polite.

It is still Sparglezeit, right? Local asparagus with Hollandaise. The leftover eggwhites went into cocotte with marjoram from the garden. Not pictured are the sweet potato chips.

important PSA for cat owners in the UK

All dry cat food from AVA, Applaws and Sainsbury's is being recalled for contamination very likely to kill your cat.

When you receive a commission asking: 'Please could you paint a Friday night at pub kicking out time, with all the fights, kebabs, and throwing up in gutters, but in the style of the Bayeux Tapestry?'

A fine example of what I can only describe as avant-Romanesque by Jim'll Paint It.

selfie, man in kilt, possible eye contact

Kilt season has finally come to Norfolk.

And the erbolat right out of the oven, and then a little cooler and lot more collapsed.

Preparing for a event tomorrow (a small one), and making erbolat with chives, celery leaf, rocket, marjoram, and sage from the garden.

Operation Hedgehog Paradise seems to be working. Last night, we got two videos at roughly 1200 and 0200 of Harley the Hedgehog in the same spot in the garden, suggesting Harley remained IN the garden all night.

Excellent news.

Got the sprout seeds into the ground today. Late, but then we had late frosts, so ...
