I wish the author had given more credit to the Islamic cartographic tradition; West Europe learned most of its cartography from Islamdom. Giving a single piece for the 14th century gives a slanted perspective IMO. Compare the 12th century work of al-Idrisi, done for the European king of Sicily, Roger the Great. You can view it at:
